Over the last year of creating New Worlds at Aunty Collective, knowledges revealed through gathering and "helping one another" allows us to create spaces where Indigiqueer peoples, allies, and young ones can thrive, create, and live wrapped up in an ethic of care. kʷənəŋitəl : ways of our ancestors holds space for collaborations between ourselves, our relatives, and our ancestors As we honour all the relations, hard work, knowledges, creations, losses, and love we have shared over our last year of being, we celebrate the resilience of our creative practices and the medicines they bring. The Lək̓ʷəŋən title of our show holds the respect and gratitude we have for these territories and peoples who support and hold us.

kʷənəŋitəl: ways of our ancestors, holds space for collaborations between ourselves, our relatives, and our ancestors- based in ethics of care. As we develop deeper roots in our Indigenous ways of knowing and being and reframe our relationships with Western systems, the need for collaborative practices with those interested in creating brave spaces is consistently revealed. Here we dream up new, queer worlds where we belong, thrive, and live. Welcome. Within this brave space, we encourage you to use your courage, be thoughtful with your words and actions, witness, be called to action, create, and dream alongside us. The image you see throughout the exhibit is a collaboration between queer creatives Brianna Dick (Lək̓ʷəŋən) and Molly Long (Métis). The idea sprang from an Art Drop-In evening at Aunty Collective where we gather to take care of each other and create. The image is tattooed on many of us and provided medicine as we navigated some hard times together and within ourselves. This collaboration holds medicine from differing nations and teachings, yet comes together to take care of us all. kʷənəŋitəl: ways of our ancestors holds resistance, medicine, and healing not just for ourselves, but for you as a witness, and for our ancestors and children to come. kʷənəŋitəl: ways of our ancestors is a call to action for us all to take care of each other and nurture brave spaces.
