Laura Manson

Tla-o-qui-aht

My name is Laura Manson. I am from the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. I am first generation from my family to not attend Indian Residential School. The school my mother attended closed one year before I was born. I have worked hard to learn every aspect of my art form(s). I mainly work with cedar, however I do bead work and resin work also. I don't recall who taught me how to cedar weave roses. However 5 years ago I learned how to harvest cedar from my sister Margaret. She learned from YouTube. I have learned weaving from a few other urban weavers, or I self taught. I do my best to teach those who want to learn. As it's important to me that the knowledge I carry is shared.
