SPIRIT BEAR
Spirit Bear is unique and mystical
and teaches us that we are
all connected in the biosphere, to the
Earth and to each other.
She teaches us that its ok to be
Different and original and not to
Worry about what others think
Because we all come from the same
Place from the creator and we are one
Spirt Bear is a graceful sentient Being
the forest is her home
the forest belongs to her and
she belongs to the forest
Fierce, protective and organised
Bear guides us spiritually
Towards nurturing and caring
For our children, home and community
Bear hunts, forges and fishes diligently daily
Until its time to retreat
Bears teach us courage and balance,
and how to protect our families
peacefully with force
Teaching us to be grounded in our practises,
strength through routine,
And that habits can protect us
Note from the Artist:
Personally, Bear is my family crest. Spirit Bear is the
name they gave to the Kermode Bear the unique
white bear found in the Pacific Northwest.
In British Columbia, we live in Bear Country, we live in
their forest.
I use Bear Medicine in my daily life, I know what it
means to fight for the protection of my children and
my family, as life sometimes presents you with
challenges that you may need fierce Bear medicine to
sustain.
I do not stray to far from my forest and have routine
visits that brings me vitality, inspiration and grounding
Bears do not scare me as I was raised around them in
their habitat. Do not approach bear as they are very
protective.
If Bear shows up in your dreams it means you need to
retreat from society, to rest and repair.
It’s always good to observe the ways of the animals
as they are teachers of how to live in balance with
Mother Earth.
We must protect our forests from destruction, as it is
their home and ours.
We are ALL born out of the forest.

The Aunty Collective Indigenous Creative Practice Hub recognizes the sovereignty of the Lekwungen Peoples, land, waters, ancestors, and non-human relations and understands that only through meaningful, respectful, reciprocal relationships, is our work made possible. As diverse Indigenous peoples who carry our unique Indigenous laws with us while away from our own lands and waters, we make visible and honour Lekwungen laws, protocols, and authority as we create, share, and develop relationships within the Lekwungen and neighboring Coast Salish territories and peoples.
