In Lekwungen the word for flower is skʷeq̓əŋ (shh-quay-kwa) flower. Some Elders I have heard used this word to refer to our young children that are our little flowers. They are the ones blooming with opportunity and the ones to carry on our ways. But when we think of every child matters we think of the love we couldn't give to the children in Residential School; we think about the teachings they missed out on and the chance to bloom like a beautiful camas like they were supposed to. to honour our lands and our flowers. I wanted to add Camas and a mother like figure holding the child in their arms surrounded by love to everyone affected by Residential Schools and to our communities raising our next Generation with the utmost love.

The Aunty Collective Indigenous Creative Practice Hub recognizes the sovereignty of the Lekwungen Peoples, land, waters, ancestors, and non-human relations and understands that only through meaningful, respectful, reciprocal relationships, is our work made possible. As diverse Indigenous peoples who carry our unique Indigenous laws with us while away from our own lands and waters, we make visible and honour Lekwungen laws, protocols, and authority as we create, share, and develop relationships within the Lekwungen and neighboring Coast Salish territories and peoples.
